Krysta “K.Raydio” Rayford is a singer/songwriter born in Chicago and raised in south Minneapolis. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin, she returned home to Minneapolis after college and began making waves in the Twin Cities music scene. Unsigned and completely independent, K.Raydio performed at Soundset Music Festival in 2014, where she performed with producer Psymun. A soul musician, she channels nostalgic R&B influences of the past with experimental futuristic production that reflect her experience as a biracial American in the 21st century. Drawing comparisons to her musical idols Erykah Badu and Janelle Monae, the Minneapolis Star Tribune described her sound as having “positive, flowery, soul-power vibrations […] but with a peppier edge.” In addition to her career as a musician, Krysta is also a dedicated youth worker and mentor with a background in Special Education. She currently works with Kulture Klub Collaborative as a Youth Development Specialist. KKC is a nonprofit organization providing arts programming and opportunities for youth experiencing homelessness in Minneapolis.
